The ATSB is investigating a birdstrike involving a Bell 206L-3 helicopter, registered VH-JMM, near Lake Evella Aerodrome, Northern Territory, on 14 July 2025.

During flight, the helicopter, with a pilot and passenger on board, struck a bird. The passenger sustained fatal injuries, and the pilot subsequently conducted a forced landing near Lake Evella.

The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve examining photographs of the helicopter, interviewing the pilot, retrieving and reviewing any recorded data, and the collection of other relevant information.

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
