Separation issue involving Cessna 172S, VH-ZER, and Piper PA-44-180, VH-KZJ, near Jandakot Airport, Western Australia, on 12 June 2025

The ATSB is investigating a separation issue involving a Cessna 172, registration VH-ZER, and a Piper Aircraft PA-44, registration VH-KZJ, near Jandakot Airport, Western Australia, on 12 June 2025.

During approach, ATC detected the aircraft in proximity.

The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve interviewing involved parties, retrieving and reviewing recorded data, and the collection of other relevant information.

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
