The ATSB is investigating an unstable approach involving a Virgin Australia Airlines Boeing 737, VH-YIL, at Sydney Airport, New South Wales on 12 June 2025

During an approach to land at Sydney Airport, the crew did not enter the correct altitude into the mode control panel and the approach became unstable. The crew disconnected the autopilot and continued the approach but did not complete a further required checklist item. The aircraft landed without further incident.

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
