The ATSB is investigating a collision with terrain involving a Kavanagh Balloons G-450, registration VH-FGC, 12 km north-north-west of Beaudesert, Queensland, on 7 July 2025.
During approach, the balloon encountered a wind change and the pilot conducted a landing outside of the planned landing site. During landing in fog, the balloon collided with a tree resulting in minor damage.
The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve interviewing involved parties, examination of maintenance records, retrieving and reviewing recorded data, and the collection of other relevant information.
A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
