The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating a low on approach incident involving SAAB 340, registration VH-VEQ, 8 km from Sydney Airport, NSW on 24 October 2022.

During an ILS approach to runway 34L at Sydney Airport, the crew noticed that the approach had become unstable, and initiated a missed approach. Shortly after, air traffic control issued the flight crew a check altitude safety alert, when the aircraft was about 2.5 NM from touch-down.

The flight crew reported that they had an on-glideslope indication at the time of the alert. The investigation is continuing.

A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
