Forced/precautionary landing involving a North American Aviation Inc T-28D, VH-XVT, 2km E Williamtown, NSW on 17 December 1994

The pilot reported that the engine lost power at a height of about 500 ft, shortly after takeoff. As he was unable to return to the runway he carried out a forced landing in an open area. During the landing roll the nosewheel entered a ditch and the aircraft overturned. The pilot was able to exit the aircraft without injury. No defects were found which were likely to have contributed to the loss of power. The engine ran normally during subsequent ground testing.
