The ATSB is investigating a controlled flight into terrain involving Robinson R22 Beta, registration VH-HGE, near Anthony Lagoon, Northern Territory, on 1 July 2025.
During aerial mustering operations, the helicopter’s tail rotor struck the ground. The helicopter began to rotate, its right skid contacted the ground, and it rolled and subsequently came to rest inverted resulting in substantial damage.
The evidence collection phase of the investigation will involve interviewing any witnesses and involved parties, examination of maintenance records, retrieving and reviewing recorded data, and the collection of other relevant information.
A final report will be released at the conclusion of the investigation. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties, so that appropriate safety action can be taken.
