The ATSB is investigating a tailstrike during take-off involving a Boeing 737 aircraft, VH-YIR, at Auckland Airport, New Zealand that occurred on 17 January 2018.

During take-off, the tail of the aircraft struck the ground, resulting in minor damage. The crew returned the aircraft to Auckland.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will obtain an engineering report, interview the crew and gather additional information.

A final report will be released at the end of the investigation.

Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.
