On 14 January 2018, a Pioneer International Flightstar ultralight aircraft, recreational registration 10-0780, collided with terrain near Emerald, Queensland. The pilot was fatally injured.

Recreational Aviation Australia (RAAus) is responsible for investigating this accident.

As part of its investigations, RAAus requested technical assistance from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), in the metallurgical examination of a portion of the aircraft’s flight controls that were recovered from the accident site.

To protect the information supplied by RAAus to the ATSB and the ATSB's investigative work to assist RAAus, the ATSB has initiated an investigation under the Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
