The operator’s pre-flight passenger briefing did not include the demonstration of, and pilots were not trained how to operate, the emergency exit via the cargo door with the flaps extended.
Fly Esperance Pty Ltd has conducted a staff training exercise to demonstrate the process for operating the rear door in the event of post-landing flap extension and has advised that procedure is to be emphasised on all pre-departure passenger briefings.
The ATSB welcomes the training session provided to staff, but will continue to monitor this safety action until Fly Esperance Pty Ltd provides written evidence of adopting a procedural changes to staff training (induction and recurrent), and operational pre-flight safety briefings.
