Accredited Representative to the Indonesian NTSC – Hard landing involving Airbus Helicopters EC135 P3H, PK-WSI, Weda Bay Airport, Indonesia, on 22 June 2026

Summary

On 22 June 2026, an Airbus Helicopters EC135 P3H, registered PK-WSI, sustained a hard landing. During a recurrent flight training exercise at Weda Bay Airport involving simulated One Engine Inoperative (OEI) procedures, the helicopter experienced a loss of main rotor speed (NR) during a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) approach.

Despite recovery attempts by the flight instructor, the helicopter descended at a high rate and made a hard landing. Both pilots were uninjured. The helicopter sustained substantial damage.

The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) is investigating this occurrence.

The NTSC has requested assistance from the ATSB. To facilitate this support and to provide the appropriate protections for the information, the ATSB appointed an accredited representative in accordance with paragraph 5.23 of the International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 13 and commenced an investigation under the Australian Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
