Summary

The New Zealand Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) is investigating a GPWS alert landing gear not down incident involving ATR 72-600, registered ZK-MVC and operated by Air New Zealand, at Napier, New Zealand, on 6 June 2026.

The reported circumstances were that at 1707 on 6 June 2026, on approach to Napier Aerodrome, the flight crew received a Ground Proximity Warning System alert with a Landing Gear Not Down message, and conducted a go-around. The aircraft then landed safely at Napier Aerodrome. TAIC has requested assistance from the ATSB.

To facilitate this support and to provide the appropriate protections for the information, the ATSB appointed an accredited representative in accordance with paragraph 5.23 of the International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 13 and commenced an investigation under the Australian Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
