The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) has commenced a transport safety investigation into an accident involving a single-engine Cessna aircraft which collided with water near Goolwa, South Australia, on Friday afternoon.
ATSB transport safety investigators are expected on scene on Saturday, where they will examine the wreckage once it has been recovered from the water.
Investigators will also interview witnesses and involved parties, collect available video footage and any recorded flight tracking data, and obtain pilot and aircraft maintenance records.
The ATSB asks anyone with video footage of the aircraft in-flight, the accident sequence or the immediate aftermath of the accident, to make contact via the witness form on our website - atsb.gov.au/witness - at their earliest opportunity.
The ATSB expects to issue a more substantive investigation update on Saturday.
