Accredited Representative to the Indonesian NTSC – Collision with terrain involving Airbus Helicopters MBB BK117 D3, PK-RGH, Mantewe District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, on 1 September 2025

Summary

On 1 September 2025, an Airbus Helicopters MBB BK177 D3, registered PK-RGH, collided with terrain in Mantewe District, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. All 8 occupants were fatally injured, including 1 Australian citizen. 

The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) is investigating this occurrence.

The NTSC has requested assistance from the ATSB to recover data from the cockpit voice and data recorder. To facilitate this support and to provide the appropriate protections for the information, the ATSB appointed an accredited representative in accordance with paragraph 5.23 of the International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 13 and commenced an investigation under the Australian Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
