Hard landing involving a Piper PA-38-112, VH-AYD, Albury Aerodrome, New South Wales, on 3 September 1997

199702968

Summary

During a solo training flight, the aircraft made a heavy landing. This collapsed the nose strut and allowed the propeller to strike the ground. The aircraft then veered off the runway and came to a stop. Post flight debrief of the student by his instructor suggested that the student may have been too intent on monitoring his airspeed indicator on short final and misjudged his height.
