Circumstances:
The pilot reported that during a practice forced landing on the strip, he was undershooting on short final and applied power to correct the approach. The aircraft landed heavily, bounced and swung left towards trees. Full power was applied, but as the aircraft climbed away the left wing struck a tall dead tree.
