The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating a collision at an active level crossing between a car and non-revenue suburban express train at Lindum, Queensland, on 26 February 2021.
At approximately 1340 on 26 February 2021, a car travelling east along Lindum Road turned right onto the Kianawah Road level crossing in the suburb of Lindum, Brisbane. At the same time a non-revenue electric suburban express train, travelling from Roma Street to Cleveland, was approaching the same level crossing. As the car passed through the active level crossing it was struck by the train. The driver of the car, who was the sole occupant, was fatally injured.
As part of the transport safety investigation, the ATSB will review CCTV footage and other recorded information, review the design of the level crossing, and gather additional information to assist the investigation.
A report will be published at the conclusion of the investigation. However, should any critical safety issues be identified at any stage during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties so appropriate safety action can be taken.
