About this Database

The Fatal Road Crash Database presented here by ATSB for public use provides basic details of the road transport crash fatalities in Australia as reported by the police each month to the State and Territory road safety authorities (who in turn forward the data to ATSB).

Details provided in the database fall into two groups:

  • the circumstances of the crash, for example, date, location, crash type.
  • some details regarding the persons killed, for example, age, gender, whether they were a driver, passenger and so on.

There is no charge for use of the database. When citing the source of any table or chart derived from the database, users should cite their own name (or business name) together with the words 'using data obtained from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau'.

Disclaimer - Information included in this database is the result of a cooperative effort between the ATSB and State Road Safety Authorities. However, all of the data is supplied to ATSB by these authorities. Data quality, national consistency in particular, is thus dependent upon the efforts of the State Road Safety Authorities in this regard. ATSB accepts no liability for any loss or damage suffered by any person or corporation resulting from the use of this data. In addition, ATSB does not guarantee system availability and is not responsible for any losses associated with any system unavailability.
