|Safety action status:|
|Background:||Why this Recommendation was developed|
The ATSB recommends that the Australasian Railway Association consider the development of specifications for catch-points and similar devices for inclusion to the Code of Practice for the Defined Interstate Rail Network.
|Date issued:||29 April 2020|
|Response from:||Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board|
The Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board have reported that they have developed the Australian Standard AS 7724:2020, Train Control Systems Standard - Unauthorized movement protection - Operational requirements, which specifies engineering options for protecting running lines against unauthorized movements of rolling stock. The standard includes design requirements for catch points and similar devices.
The ATSB considers that the detail within the standard is consistent with addressing the system weaknesses identified by rail investigation 2005001.
