As a result of this investigation the Australian Transport Safety Bureau recommends that M7 Aerospace Pty Ltd review and amend its Fairchild SA-227 series maintenance manual to ensure that notes on operational tests, with regard to stabiliser movement versus trim switch position referred to in Section 27-40-10 for removal of the pitch trim switch, are included in Section 27-10-10 for related maintenance activities, or references to them are clearly noted in that part.

The following response was received from M7 Aerospace on 12 January 2006.
The Fairchild SA227CC Maintenance Manual, chapter 27-1 0-1 0, indicates the many discrete steps required to replace the Aileron control Yoke Bearing, including the removal (step K.4) and the re-installation (step L.5) of the Trim Control Switches. As with most of the instructions identified in the Maintenance Manual, more detailed procedures may be contained elsewhere in the manual to provide the mechanic with specific installation and verification instructions. In this instance MM chapter 27-40-10, page 201 provides the detailed instructions for the removal, replacement and operational check of the Pilot and Copilot Trim Control Switches. All repair personnel should familiarize themselves with the complete scope of work instructions before attempting any repair and in this case M7/Fairchild SA227CC Maintenance Manual provides the mechanic with the data needed to install and check the components affected by the replacement of the Aileron Control Yoke Bearing.
Having said the above, M7 will at the next scheduled revision add to MM chapter 27-1 0-1 0, page 201, Step L "Installation - Control Wheel" a reference to MM chapter 27-40-1 0, page 201, instructing the mechanic to perform the operational check of the switches per step B.4 of the noted section.
