An investigation has been launched into the collision between Pacific National train 9221 and Aurizon train 9T66 at Oonoomurra, Queensland on 27 February 2017.

At about 2350 EST, Aurizon train 9T66 was undertaking a main line cross with Pacific National train 9221 at Oonoomurra. The lead locomotive of train 9T66 subsequently collided with the rear wagon of train 9221. The collision caused minor damage to the lead locomotive of train 9T66. The trailing bogie of wagon RNDY20927 in train 9221 was derailed. There was no injury to the crew of either train.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the crew, review operational procedures, and gather additional information.

A final report will be released at the end of the investigation.

Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.
