Summary

On 24 February 2018, the yacht Finistere capsized south of Perth, Western Australia, with the loss of two lives. The Western Australian Department of Transport (WA-DoT) is responsible for investigating this accident. As part of its investigation, WA-DoT has requested technical assistance from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), involving the examination of an electronic device.

To protect the information supplied by WA-DoT to the ATSB, as well as the ATSB’s investigative work to assist WA-DoT, the ATSB initiated an investigation under the Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003.
