The ATSB is investigating an engine failure and inflight shutdown involving a Bombardier DHC-8-402, registered VH-LQD, operated by Sunstate Airlines (Qld), near Brisbane Airport, Queensland, on the 27 June 2018.

During the cruise, the right engine failed and the crew were unable to feather the propeller. The aircraft continued to Brisbane Airport where the aircraft landed safely.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will obtain information from the flight crew, engineering reports, recorded data and additional information as required.

Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.
