The ATSB is investigating an engine failure or malfunction and forced landing of a Beech Aircraft Corporation 76, VH-BDS, 49 km north-west of Cessnock aerodrome, in NSW, on 1 June 2018.

The aircraft’s right engine lost power during its decent to the aerodrome. The pilot shut down the right engine and elected to conduct a forced landing.

The aircraft landed in a paddock resulting in substantial damage to the aircraft. There were no reported injuries.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the pilot and crew and gather any other available recorded data or information.

Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties.
