The ATSB is investigating a de-icing boot failure involving Regional Express SAAB 340, VH-ZLH, at Esperance Airport, Western Australia, on 26 May 2018.

While conducting ice protection system testing during taxi, the flight crew received an associated caution. The crew completed failure management checks and subsequently elected to conduct the flight to Perth. After landing, the flight crew found a tear in the right stabiliser boot.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the flight crew, obtain engineering reports, review operational procedures and gather additional information.

A final report will be released at the end of the investigation.

Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.
