The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the forced landing of a GA-8 Airvan aircraft which occurred approximately seven kilometres north of the Bellburn airstrip in the Purnululu National Park – Bungle Bungles, Western Australia on 14 May 2018.

During the flight, it has been reported the engine ran rough and subsequently lost power, resulting in the crew conducting a forced landing in an inaccessible area.

As part of the investigation, ATSB Transport Safety Investigators will interview the pilot and other witnesses, examine maintenance records amongst other activities.

Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties.
