The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the collision with water of the twin-engine EC135 helicopter, VH-ZGA, which occurred approximately 35 km north-west of Port Hedland, Western Australia late on 14 March 2018.

While approaching a vessel to pick up a marine pilot, the helicopter was observed to collide with the water.

A team of Transport Safety Investigators are liaising with the helicopter operator, Police and other agencies as part of the investigation.

No further information about the accident is available at this time.

The ATSB will release a report into the accident once the investigation has concluded. Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify relevant parties.
