The ATSB is investigating an engine failure involving an Airbus Helicopter AS355F-1, registered VH-SEV, that occurred at Bankstown Aerodrome, NSW on 12 March 2018
During landing, the pilot experienced a suspected failure of the no. 2 engine and shut it down. After landing, smoke and fire was detected emanating from the engine cowls. Post-flight, it was determined the exhaust ducts had become detached and the exhaust collector was badly damaged.
As part of the investigation, the ATSB will examine the engine and affected components, obtain technical and recorded data and interview relevant personnel.
A final report will be released at the end of the investigation.
Should a critical safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.
