The ATSB is investigating the signal passed at danger by suburban passenger train 1W33, near Roma Street Station, Queensland on 5 September 2017.

At approximately 1628 (EST) on 5 September 2017, a Queensland Rail passenger train (1W33) exceeded its limit of authority by passing signal RS57 at danger near Roma Street Station, Queensland. The suburban passenger train was crewed by a rail traffic driver and guard, no passengers were onboard the train. The incident resulted in no harm to rail traffic crew, but there was minor damage to the train and fixed infrastructure.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the rail traffic crew, obtain recorded data, and gather additional information related to the occurrence.
