Summary

The ATSB is investigating a level crossing collision between a car and XPT NT35, Kyogle, NSW, on 14 June 2017

At approximately 0810 on 14 June 2017, a white Holden Coomodore drove onto a level crossing in the township of Kyogle, NSW. At the same time an XPT NT35 travelling between Brisbane and Sydney was approaching the same level crossing travelling on the 'Up' direction. The car stopped momentarily before the crossing and then drove onto the crossing as the train approached. the train struck the motor vehcile, and as a result of the collision the driver who was travelling alone, died at the scene of the accident.
