The ATSB is investigating an engine failure and forced landing of a Piper PA-28-181, registered VH-BDB, 15 km West South West of Bankstown Airport, New South Wales, on 19 September 2017.

During the flight, the engine failed and the pilot conducted a forced landing in a paddock, contacting a fence and trees. The pilot received minor injuries and the aircraft was substantially damaged.

As part of the investigation the ATSB will interview the pilot and gather additional information.

A report will be released within several months.
