The ATSB is investigating a Eurocopter AS 350 BA (Squirrel) helicopter, registered VH-PHU, which suffered a rotor tip strike into foliage while making an approach to land into a confined area about 9 km east-south-east of the St Leonards aeroplane landing area, Victoria, on 4 July 2017.

The helicopter and its rotor system suffered minor damage during the incident before the pilot effected a safe landing, within the confined area. The pilot then shut down and secured the helicopter.  There were no reported injuries.

The ATSB will interview the pilot and, where necessary, gather additional information.

A report will be released within several months.
