The ATSB is investigating an engine failure which resulted in a fire on the ground involving Gippsland Aeronautics GA-8, VH-AJZ, Gibb River ALA, WA, on 22 April 2017.

During taxi after landing, the engine failed. While attempting to restart the engine, the pilot observed smoke and flames coming from the front of the aircraft. The pilot and passengers evacuated the aircraft. The pilot and passengers were not injured and the aircraft was destroyed.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the pilot and gather additional information.

A report will be released within several months.
