The ATSB is investigating an engine malfunction involving a Piper PA-28, registered VH-SWV, near Camden Airport, on 20 April 2017.

During initial climb, the pilot advised air traffic control they had an engine malfunction. The aircraft subsequently collided with terrain. The aircraft was substantially damaged and the pilot and passenger sustained serious injuries.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the pilot and gather additional information.

A final safety report will be released following the conclusion of the ATSB’s investigation. Should a safety issue be identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify those affected and seek safety action to address the issue.
