The ATSB is investigating a controlled flight into terrain involving a Piper PA-31, VH-JQS, at Barwon Heads/Geelong (ALA), Victoria, on 29 March 2017.

On final approach, the pilot of a Piper PA-31 reported encountering windshear and becoming low on the approach. The aircraft struck a truck travelling on a road outside the aerodrome. The pilot conducted a missed approach and subsequently made an uneventful landing. The aircraft sustained minor damage to the left main landing gear.

As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the pilot and gather further information.

A report will be released within several months.
