Summary

At about 1300 hrs the train controller (at Centrol in Melbourne) reported that two sets of points--which were under block conditions for maintenance--had suddenly run to their alternate positions. This occurred when the train controller performed a route-setting action to establish a path for the approaching train. V/Line believe a wrong-side failure of the train control system has occurred.

The Office of the Chief Investigator, Transport Safety (Vic) is investigating the incident under the provisions of the Transport Safety Investigation Act 2003 (Cth).
