Witnesses nearby advised that they heard the aircraft's engine but could not see the aircraft because it was obscured by low cloud. A short time later they heard a loud bang and saw pieces of aircraft fall from the cloud.

The initial wreckage examination has confirmed that the aircraft suffered an in-flight structural failure. The main wreckage was scattered over approximately 300 metres.
